Hamilton Police is honouring International Women’s Day by celebrating the “strength, resilience, and contributions” of women within the community and at the police service.
“From officers to staff members, their dedication inspires us all toward a gender-equal world. Let’s honour the trailblazers, acknowledge the progress, and commit to embracing equity every day.”
“Together, we can create a future where every voice is heard, and every opportunity is equal. Celebrate the remarkable women making a difference in our lives.”
Hamilton’s first three women officers were hired in 1958, though police services around the country did not become fully integrated until 1974.
Today about 20 per cent of Hamilton Police’s 800-plus officers are women.
In 1994, Lenna Bradburn became Canada’s first female police chief when she was selected for the top job In Guelph.
