Hamilton's two major school boards and post-secondary institutions are open, but freezing rain and afternoon snow will impact the roads.

Hamilton’s two major school boards and post-secondary institutions are open, and while the city didn’t get hit with the amount of overnight snow that neighbouring regions did, Thursday morning’s commute to work and school will be slow due to the freezing rain that has blanketed the streets.

Up to 15 millimetres is expected by 9 a.m., prompting Environment Canada to issue a freezing rain warning for the area.

Rain is expected to be replaced by snow Thursday afternoon, and it will continue through the evening.

The city has deployed proactive ice-clearing measures by applying de-icing materials to the roads.

Hamilton residents can also be proactive by following along with the city’s plow tracker.

The interactive map can be accessed at hamilton.plowtracker.com.

Hamilton buses were on schedule Thursday morning; however, HSR users could experience delays due to the slippery continues.
