Hamilton New Year’s Levee expands to all former municipalities

The New Year’s Levee in Hamilton, a public event where residents can meet Mayor Andrea Horwath and city councillors, is moving around town next month.
The levee, due to COVID-19 health protections, was held virtually during the final two years of the term of former mayor Fred Eisenberger. This time around, the Hamilton City Hall levee will be held on a weeknight and a levee will be held in each of the areas of the city that were independent municipalities prior to amalgamation in 2000.
Since 2019, the levee has also been a forum to present the Order of Hamilton awards of merit, which are intended to honour exceptional volunteer contributions by citizens.
Attendees are also asked to support area food banks by bringing a non-perishable food item.
The levee at city hall (71 Main St. W.) takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 4 from 7-9 p.m. The other levees will be held at the city’s municipal services centres.
