A 40-year-old man from Hamilton suffered serious injuries during his arrest by Hamiton Police officers in November last year (2022)

Police responded to a call at a detox center located on 13 Nov., at Main St. E., where the man was refusing to leave the premises.

An interaction occurred between the man and the responding officers, during which he was thrown to the ground.

Subsequently, the man was arrested and transported to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a facial fracture.

The SIU, an agency responsible for investigating incidents involving police officers in Ontario, initiated an investigation into the matter.

After a thorough review of the available evidence and witness statements, Director Joseph Martino concluded today (Sept. 8) that there were no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against the involved Hamilton Police Service officer.

The case has now been closed, and no charges will be filed against the officer.
