A 21-year-old Hamilton man faces a stunt driving charge, after a vehicle was stopped travelling at more than twice the posted speed limit.
The Haldimand County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says that 11:15 p.m. on Wednesdeay, officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 6 in Caledonia that was travelling at more than 160 km/h in an 80 zone.
Police have charged Kristopher James Yaneff, age 21, of Hamilton, with Stunt Driving — 40km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, along with a 30-day driver’s licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 14 days.
Last year, the province lowered the threshold for a stunt driving charge in an 80 km/h zone from 50 km/h over the speed limit to 40.
Yaneff will have a court appearance in Cayuga to answer to the charge.
