A 52-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested for assault and mischief after an altercation at a Tim Hortons restaurant drive-thru window and is scheduled to appear in court.

On Friday, March 20, 2020, just before 3:30 p.m., a customer joined a drive-thru line at a Tim Hortons restaurant on the east mountain and placed an order through the intercom system as he approached the window.

At the window, a discrepancy arose over the form of payment and the customer became verbally aggressive, according to police.

Police say the payment went through and the order was filled, but as the driver was leaving, he spat three times in the direction of the employee, striking her and the drive-thru window.

On Saturday, March 21, Hamilton Police identified the vehicle and the registered owner and after continued investigation, police confirmed the registered owner was operating the vehicle and was the person involved in the incident.

On Sunday, March 22, 2020, the registered owner was arrested and taken into police custody. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court.

The arrested is Darren Dickison, 52-years-of-age from Hamilton, who has been charged with assault and mischief under $5000.

Hamilton Police are reminding citizens to practice patience and use better judgement, especially during this difficult time.
