UPDATE: Hamilton man accused of murder released in ‘error’ from Burlington court

UPDATE: Halton Regional Police say that Nana-Yaw Asante, a 23-year-old Hamilton man believed to be mistakenly released from custody in Burlington, was located and arrested late Saturday in Oshawa without incident.


A search is on for a 23-year-old Hamilton man accused of murder who was released from custody in error in Burlington.

Halton Regional Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Nana-Yaw Asante who has been charged with multiple offenses by the Ontario Provincial Police, including Attempted Murder with a Firearm.

If observed by members of the public, police say do not approach him and immediately call 911.

Police are seeking a warrant for the offense of Unlawfully at Large after Asante attended a Burlington Court on October 10, 2024, for an unrelated matter and was released from custody in error.

Asante, pictured below, is described as a black male who is five-foot-five tall and 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

“Asante is encouraged to retain counsel and contact HRPS,” said Halton police.
