Hamilton and Halton area motorists may experience delays travelling on the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge this week.

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) announced that maintenance work would lead to a lane closure on the bridge on Thursday.

Weather permitting, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., one lane will be closed, and two flagpersons will be on-site to direct traffic.

PSPC did not specify which lane would be closed but added that the bridge would remain open to cyclists and pedestrians.

Marine traffic will not be impacted.

The Burlington Canal Lift Bridge is a vertical lift bridge located to the north of the Burlington Bay James N. Allan Skyway.

Built in 1962, the 116-metre-long bridge is the sixth to span the Burlington Canal since 1830.

The bridge allows vessels to enter and exit Hamilton Harbour into Lake Ontario. It carries Eastport Drive across the canal with two lanes for traffic in each direction, as well as a single pedestrian walkway on the west side.
