Hamilton gets 1st frost warning of fall
Published October 3, 2022 at 11:06 am
A frost advisory was issued for Hamilton just before 9:30 a.m. today (Oct. 3).
Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops. While the temperature in the city was around 12C by late morning, it could approach freezing after dark.
“Temperatures near or below the freezing mark are expected tonight into Tuesday morning,” Environment and Climate Change Canada said in the advisory.

Taking care of business after a first frost warning includes taking preventative measures to protect plants and trees, especially in frost-prone areas.
Weather historian Rolf Campbell, who curates the Hamilton Weather Records Twitter page (@YHM_Weather), notes that Hamilton typically ceases to see days with a median temperature above 20C by the end of September.
Ten days ago, the city had its coldest September temperature in 15 years. On Sept. 23, a week ago last Friday, the low was 2.3C, which was lowest temperature on a September day since 1.2C was experienced on Sept. 16, 2007.
