Fundraising campaign started to assist with memorial for Hamilton teen

A fundraising campaign has been created to assist with the costs of a memorial service planned for a Hamilton teenager.

The GoFundMe page is for 14-year-old Malcolm Belgrave who was found dead in Lake Ontario on Wednesday following an extensive search when he was reported missing days before.

Belgrave and some friends were using an inflatable raft in the water near Beach Blvd. when he went under and never resurfaced.

Teams from the Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Air Force Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, and police, fire and paramedics services from Hamilton and other jurisdictions were involved in the search.

“Malcolm was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend who will be sadly missed by so many,” is the message posted by friends and family on the fundraising page.

More than $24,000 has been raised in two days.
