The Serafini Family Ice Pad at Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre in downtown Hamilton is now open

The weather is finally cooperating in time for the holidays and lovers of skating in the great outdoors in Hamilton can finally get their wish, with the ice at four city-operated outdoor rinks now open for the season.

City of Hamilton outdoor ice rink locations were scheduled to open mid-December (weather permitting), so they are pretty much right on time.

Staff are on site at Bernie Morelli – Serafini Family Outdoor Ice Pad downtown (adjacent to Tim Horton’s Field), Dundas Driving Park and two outdoor rinks in Flamborough: Freelton Community Park and Waterdown Memorial Park.

The ice will be maintained each day until 10 p.m., with the lights shut off at 11 p.m.

Outdoor ice rinks are weather dependent; during extended periods of above zero temperatures ice conditions may require a closure.

Closure notifications will be posted both online and at the park. All scheduled ice sessions are cancelled during closures.

Volunteers are building community rinks in about a dozen approved parks as well, with openings weather dependent.
