Caregivers who are taking Hamilton children trick-or-treating for Halloween should give them flashlights in order to be visible in dense fog anticipated to arrive this earning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a fog warning for Hamilton. It says there will be “visibilities near zero.” The hazard is expected to last into Tuesday morning.
“With high pedestrian activity due to Halloween, motorists are encouraged to exercise increased caution when driving,” the federal weather and climate agency says.
Groups that are trick-and-treating should “(p)ick brightly coloured costumes that can be clearly seen by motorists. Add reflective tape to the costume to increase visibility … Give each child a flashlight to carry to make them more visible to motorists and others.”
Hamilton is located at the western tip of Lake Ontario. During autumn, fog often forms when cooler air moves over bodies of water.
