Residents who want to see Christmas through the eyes of a Charles Dickens character can do so at Hamilton’s beloved Dundurn Castle.

The city of Hamilton recently announced that attendees who visit the castle on the first day of its Victorian Christmas event can enjoy the festivities for free.

The event will kick off on Nov. 26 at noon and while admission is free that day, guests are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for donation.

According to the city, Victorian Christmas will feature costumed interpreters who guests can interact with during self-guided tours of the mid-19th century home of Sir Allan MacNab, a Canadian politician, lawyer, soldier and militia commander.

The castle will be decorated with cedar boughs, ribbons and dried flowers by the Garden Club of Hamilton, and musician Ruth Sutherland will be on hand to play the harp. Attendees can also expect Victorian carolers and a handmade mini-market in the coach house.

The event will run until Dec. 24.

Tickets start at $14.75 for adults and family packages are available.
