Investigations continue into the fatal crash on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, with police linking the incident to escalating tensions between two Hamilton high schools.
Hamilton Police say new details have emerged indicating problems between students from St. Jean de Brébeuf and Nora Frances Henderson secondary schools may be linked to the fatal crash. Authorities have not specified the nature of these tensions.
The collision, which happened on Friday (Oct. 11) involved a Toyota SUV suspected to be fleeing a black Ford Focus and a silver Infiniti.
Investigators learned that shortly before the collision, the Toyota was pursued in the parking lot at St. Jean de Brébeuf Secondary School, an incident believed to stem from escalating disputes between students of the two schools.
The police are now actively searching for the driver of the silver Infiniti, who remains unidentified and have encouraged them to come forward.
The tragic crash was reported by witnesses who observed two or three vehicles racing eastbound near the Upper Gage Avenue overpass on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway.
During the incident, the Toyota SUV reportedly lost control, rolled off the road multiple times and ejected one or more of its occupants.
Three people inside the Toyota were taken to the hospital with serious injuries and a 15-year-old Hamilton boy was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities have already arrested Vincenzino Stumpo, 18, from Hamilton, in connection with the crash. Stumpo is charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm and dangerous operation causing death. He made a court appearance on Saturday, with a bail hearing scheduled for Oct. 15.
Officers have been working closely with St. Jean de Brébeuf and Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School communities to ensure the safety of students and staff. Additional officers are stationed near both schools to monitor developments and address any safety concerns that may arise.
Investigators urge anyone with information, including dashcam footage, from the time and area of the collision to reach out to the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4753 or 905-546-3886.
