Driver turns himself in to police after hit-and-run in Hamilton

A 61-year-old man involved in a hit-and-run crash in Hamilton that left a victim with life-threatening injuries was arrested after turning himself in to police today.

On Saturday (Oct. 13) Hamilton Police received a report of a hit-and-run in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. near the southbound lane of Queen Street and Aberdeen Avenue, where they found a person on the roadway.

The victim, who sustained head injuries was transported to Hamilton General Hospital, where they remain in serious condition.

Investigators determined the individual had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene without stopping. Police have not disclosed further identifying information about the victim, such as age or gender, and the circumstances leading up to the incident are still under investigation.

Authorities say a 61-year-old Hamilton man turned himself in a day after the incident and has since been charged with failing to remain causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18.
