Downtown Hamilton’s skyline to get a new 31-storey tower

Hamilton’s central Beasley neighborhood is set to get a new 31-storey condo in its evolving downtown landscape.

Located at 73 Hughson St N, Core Development Group recently unveiled a proposal for the mixed-use tower to City of Hamilton. The tower will be designed by the McCallum Sather Architects.

Nestled just an 8-minute walk north of the Hamilton GO Centre, the tower’s location aims to foster better connectivity with the Greater Toronto Area.

The development comes as a response to the city’s growing demand for modern living spaces and commercial areas. The tower’s 380 residential units are expected to cater to diverse lifestyles, while the ground floor will house inviting retail spaces.

“The podium is arranged in two-tiers, creating extended outdoor terraces on both the seventh and thirteenth floors,” said McCallum Sather on their website.

What sets this proposal apart is its seamless integration with the historic Beasley neighborhood’s heritage, according the proposal submitted to City of Hamilton by McCallum Sather Architects.

The brick columns on the ground floor pay homage to the adjacent heritage buildings, creating a blend of the old and the new.

The 105.9-meter-tall structure is set to have parking and sustainable mobility, with a four-level underground garage accommodating 176 parking spaces, with 202 bicycle parking spaces to adhere to the city’s commitment on eco-friendly transportation alternatives.

The tower’s retail space at ground level showcases a curved glass frontage, sheltered by the second storey, intended to merge the building’s interior with the public space, fostering a gathering spot for both residents and visitors.

“From levels 13-30, a squarish residential tower rises, culminating in indoor and outdoor amenities at the 31 st floor,” added McCallum Sather.

The site is within walking distance to two major GO transit stations, with the West Harbour GO station a 13-minute walk.

The upcoming Hamilton LRT B-Line will include James station at James St N and Wilson St. steps away from the site. The line will extend west to McMaster University, offering expanded connectivity for residents, a real estate website Urban Toronto stated.
