Hamilton Police have issued a warning about a group of burglars canvassing neighbourhoods for vulnerable homes ahead of breaking in.

In each reported incident, one or more men exit a car and knock on a neighbourhood door. If no one answers, the men return to their vehicle and drive away. They then circle the neighbourhood and return later to force entry. After gaining entry, the burglars target jewellery stored in bedrooms.

On the other hand, if the homeowner answers the door, the men make up a excuses or pose as a landscapers or general labourers. The men have been observed wearing high visability, reflective clothing, hardhats and face masks.

“Hamilton Police are asking residents to be aware of this suspicious behaviour and if encountered to report their observations,” police wrote.
