COVID-19 virus stable but still around in Hamilton

COVID-19 cases are stable but still present in Hamilton, with the seven-day average for new cases down slightly to 25 from 26 last week and 27 the week prior.

The weekly incidence rate (per 100,000 people) is also stable at 30, versus 29 and 31 the previous two reporting periods. The daily hospital admissions average is also stable at 0.4 – it was 0.6 last week – and the number of patients with COVID in intensive care units is down to a comfortable zero.

The test positivity rate is down to 19.29 per cent (from 20.4 per cent and 22.7 per cent) and active outbreaks are also down to 11 (from 13 and 15 the past two periods) from long term care homes, hospitals and retirement centres.

Wastewater signals of the COVID-19 virus remain stable.

Influenza numbers, meanwhile, are considered very low and stable. The per cent positivity rate is 1.0 per cent (it was 0.7 per cent last week and 1.0 per cent per cent the previous week) and wastewater signals for Influenza A are stable while there hasn’t been any Influenza B detected since June 20.

Hamilton also tests for Respiratory Syncytial Virus, which show wastewater signals on the increase and outbreaks stable at two. The per cent positivity rate for the virus is stable at 10.3 per cent.
