The Hamilton health care partners say they’ve reached a milestone, administering one million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to residents.
Health officials say they hit the mark on the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 vaccines being administered.
“Partners and organizations from across the community have worked around the clock to plan a significant expansion of local COVID-19 vaccine capacity to ensure as many Hamiltonians as possible are able to receive the strong protection,” reads the official media release from the City of Hamilton.
They added that receiving a third dose of vaccine provides additional protection against “the highly-transmissible Omicron variant.”
Individuals over the age of 18 are eligible to receive a third dose (booster). Appointments can be booked by visiting www.hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine.
79.1 per cent of the eligible population have received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Hamilton.
As of Dec. 24, 2021, unvaccinated residents are contracting COVID-19 at a rate 4.9 times higher than the vaccinated population. The risk of hospitalizing is 22.8 times higher among the unvaccinated in Hamilton.
