Citizen tip leads to loaded gun, fentanyl charges in Stoney Creek

A tip from a Stoney Creek resident about a man brandishing a handgun has resulted in the arrest of two men found with a loaded gun and extra ammunition and half a kilogram of fentanyl.

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, just after 10:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a call from a “concerned citizen” about two men walking south on Mountain, Ave. N., near Jones Street, with one appearing to be in possession of a firearm.

Police conducted a search of the area and arrested a 17 year-old and a 19 year-old and discovered a loaded Glock handgun equipped with a full auto switch, an extended magazine carrying 28 rounds of ammunition, $1500 in Canadian Currency, and 500 grams of Fentanyl.

The 17 year-old, a Toronto resident, has been cited for five gun charges, including possession of prohibited (and loaded) firearm, two counts of fentanyl possession and proceeds of crime under $5,000.

The 19 year-old, a Hamilton resident, is facing a weapons dangerous charge, fail to comply with youth sentence and disobey court order.

Both men remain in custody.

Hamilton Police thanked the citizen for the call, noting the “swift response of this community member has played a crucial role in enhancing the safety and well-being of our city.”
