Vinyl enthusiasts in Hamilton have another place to seek out that lost classic record.

It’s Alright Ma Record Store, an independent retailer, recently had a soft opening in a space at 338 Barton St. E., between East Ave. and Emerald St. N., next door to the Emerald Coffee café in the Lansdale neighbhourhood. The store sells rock, punk, indie, soul, jazz, country and metal records and have a selection of both used and new vinyl. A sign on the door says that it does offer music lovers a chance to sell records, as well as purchase them.

The store was previously at 312 Barton E. back in 2021. In any event, with Into The Abyss having recently moved to King St. E. in the international village shopping area, and the venerable Dr. Disc on Wilson St., there are walkable options for buying records downtown.

It’s Alright Ma is open four days per week, from 12 noon till 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. New-to-you arrivals are often shared on the store’s Instagram account.

The store takes its name from a track that lyricist Bob Dylan released in 1965, whose full title is “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding).” The 7½-minute song is said to be one of Dylan’s favourites and includes the famous line, “”Money doesn’t talk, it swears.”
