Bronze bust unveiled for racial pioneer, Hamilton icon

“All I try to do, is to do a job and to do it well” – Lincoln Alexander.

The Honourable Lincoln Alexander (1922 – 2012), a Hamilton icon, Canada’s first Black MP and Ontario’s first Black Lieutenant-Governor, was a leading figure in the fight for racial equity in Canada. In provincial, federal, public and private roles, he consistently advocated for the equal treatment of Black Canadians.

On Sunday, on what would have been his 102nd birthday, his legacy was cemented in bronze with the unveiling of a bust that will be on permanent display at Queen’s Park in Toronto.
