Assault charges for Hamilton woman who allegedly poured hot tea on Ottawa demonstrators

A Hamilton woman, 65, faces four assault charges after allegedly pouring hot tea on protestors in Ottawa.

Ottawa Police confirmed the incident took place on July 20 during a confrontation at an unspecified demonstration.

“We ask that all demonstrations in Ottawa remain respectful, peaceful and lawful,” police wrote. They added that any violent action by of against demonstrators will result in criminal charges.

“If you are participating in, or encounter a demonstration, please follow the instructions of police officers and allow them space to ensure the entire crowd is safe,” police continued, “If there are immediate safety concerns or complex crowd dynamics, incidents can be flagged to police at the scene and may need to be followed up afterwards. This should not be interpreted as inaction.”
