Arrests made in downtown Hamilton shooting

A Hamilton man and youth were arrested Friday (July 5) and are facing several charges in connection with a downtown shooting police believe was targeted last Friday morning.
The shooting took place around 11 a.m. at the intersection of King Street and MacNab Street, near the Frank A. Cooke Transit Terminal, and left the victim, who was taken to a nearby hospital, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators from the Hamilton Police Shooting Response Team took over the investigation and made the two arrests.
Police believe the shooting was targeted related to a dispute between the individuals involved.
A 15-year-old male from Hamilton, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justic Act, has been charged with:
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Aggravated assault with a weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to order
- Fail to comply – probation order
A 21-year-old male from Hamilton is charged with:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking
- Proceeds of crime over $5,000
