Grindr robberies Hamilton

A manhunt is underway in Hamilton after a string of robberies were set up over a dating app.

According to Hamilton Police, several men have been setting up dates on Grindr, a dating app primarily used by gay men. The app sorts prospective dates through a location filter and allows users to match each other.

Police say several men have used the app to meet with victims who they then ambush, extort and rob. Several similar instances have been reported on Hamilton Mountain between Aug. 22 and 29.

“Police acknowledge the sensitive nature of these crimes, and are appealing to the public for any help in identifying the responsible parties pictured,” investigators wrote.

Anyone with information can call police at  905-546-8927 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
