The latest in a long list of event cancellations due to COVID-19, the Barton Village Festival will not be happening this summer.

In an Instagram post from earlier this week, the Barton Village BIA announced that the festival, normally held in June, was cancelled.

“A foregone conclusion, but nonetheless our hearts are heavy to have to announce that this year’s Barton Village Festival won’t be happening,” the post said.

“It was a difficult decision to cancel rather than postpone this beloved yearly event, one we work so hard all year to plan, but we simply don’t know when it will be safe to gather again, and the health and well-being of our community is our number one priority.”

A foregone conclusion, but nonetheless our hearts are heavy to have to announce that this year's Barton Village Festival won't be happening. It was a difficult decision to cancel rather than postpone this beloved yearly event, one we work so hard all year to plan, but we simply don't know when it will be safe to gather again, and the health and well-being of our community is our number one priority. . This year's festival was set to be the biggest and best yet, with some great new programming alongside all the usual favourites. We were so lucky to have festival coordinator @engagingmusic on board in an official capacity this year, as well as a new festival sponsor, @meridiancreditunion, who care so deeply about this city and our little corner of it! . We can't wait to come back in 2021 with all the great stuff we had planned for this June and even more! In the meantime, we're closely monitoring the public health situation, and we’re working on some special ways to celebrate our community as soon as we can! Stay tuned…

The Barton Village Festival is relatively new to the Hamilton festival scene, but in the few short years it’s been happening, it’s become a popular draw for Barton Street neighbours and Hamiltonians from further out, looking to celebrate the historic North End community.

The festival would have featured performances, food trucks, family-friendly activities and events and, of course, the sights and delights offered by the Village’s many supportive and engaged businesses.

This past year has seen new additions to the Barton family that would’ve added much flavour to the party. They include: MaiPai Tiki, The Dirty South, Duke’s Pub, Pasta and Pizzeria, Stardust and the newly opened Sookham, among others.

While the news of the festival’s cancellation is disappointing, Hamiltonians can be sure that the next festival will be even more spectacular.

“This year’s festival was set to be the biggest and best yet, with some great new programming alongside all the usual favourites…We can’t wait to come back in 2021 with all the great stuff we had planned for this June and even more,” the post promises.

The BIA’s website says the next festival will be held June 5, 2021.
