Another fog advisory in Hamilton, but a record high temperature for St. Paddy’s Day?

Dense fog in Hamilton appears to be a precursor to an anticipated record-high temperature tomorrow, which is St. Patrick’s Day.

First and foremost, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued the second fog advisory in the last 24 hours for the city. As of 7 p.m. on Wednesday, much of the city was enveloped in fog after breezes over Lake Ontario pushed a pass of air inland. As a result, the federal agency said some areas of Hamilton would have “near zero visibility.”

“Dense fog has developed again this evening,” Environment Canada said. “Areas of near zero visibility are expected.

“Motorists are advised to exercise caution.”

However, the fog might foreshadow a record-high temperature for March 17. HamiltonWeather.ca says the daytime high could be 18C with “some sunshine” and moderate winds of 10 to 35 km/h.

The record high for the date, per Environment Canada’s archives, is 16C. It was set in 2003, and matched in 2010.

For the time being, though, residents can expect “hazardous” travel conditions. One Twitter user said he got lost in his own neighbourhood while he was cycling.

In contrast, the record low for March 17 is minus-14.7C. That mark was set in 1981.
