2 people rescued after major fire at an apartment building in Hamilton

A fire broke out at an apartment building in Hamilton on Saturday morning.

Hamilton Fire says crews arrived at 987 Mohawk Rd. E. to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the building.

Two people were rescued shortly after firefighters arrived. The extent of their injuries is not yet known, including whether they are minor or life-threatening.

Additional information on those rescued has not been released, including their ages as well as the number of other residents who were safely evacuated.

The fire has since been brought under control, although crews are expected to remain on the scene for some time to fully extinguish hot spots and investigate the cause. The estimated cost of the damage is also being assessed.
