Hamilton Police are searching for two men connected with an early morning shooting — one of three shootings reported overnight in the city.

Officers were called to a parking lot at 1127 Barton St. E. just after midnight today (July 25) for reports of two men fighting followed by gunfire, Hamilton Police said in a press release.

Police found evidence of shots fired but the two men fled the area.

No physical injuries have been reported in connection to the incident at this time, police said.

As the investigation unfolds, people can expect to see officers canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage today.

Witnesses provided descriptions of the two men.

One man is described as approximately five-foot-ten-inches tall, 160 pounds with short, cropped hair and facial hair. He was shirtless and last seen running southbound on Ottawa Street.

The second man also has short, cropped hair. He was wearing a leather jacket, baseball cap, and dark jeans. He was driving a truck and was last seen heading west on Barton Street East.

Residents and business owners in the area are asked to review their security camera footage from 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 to 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 25 for any suspicious activity.

Drivers who were in the area during this time and have dash camera footage are also encouraged to contact police.

This shooting was one of three last night. Shootings were also reported at 135 Upper Centennial Parkway and Spring Valley Crescent, , Hamilton Police media relations officer Const. Krista-Lee Ernst said in a video post.

“We are deeply concerned by the recent increase in gun violence in our community,” Ernst said.

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been 37 shootings reported, 13 of which were in the day, she said.

“This surge in violence is unacceptable,” Ernst said.

Currently, the three overnight shootings are not believed to be connected.
