A Hamilton couple will no longer wonder “what if” when it comes to winning a million dollars.

Steven Taylor and Patti-Sue Cushenan celebrated their $1-million Lotto 6/49 win by dancing in their living room to the 1993 hit Barenaked Ladies song, “If I Had a Million Dollars.”

The couple learned they won the prize in the Gold Ball Draw on July 26.

While she was in bed, Cushenan checked their tickets on the OLG App and discovered their good fortune. “I heard the winning jingle and shouted ‘Steve, come in here!’” she was quoted as saying in a press release. “He double-checked our ticket and confirmed that we won $1 million. Then we celebrated with Barenaked Ladies song ‘If I Had $1,000,000’ and danced in the living room!”

The couple shared the good news with their family members who were “overjoyed.”

Taylor, 65, and Cushenan, 63, said they have been playing Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and Instant tickets off and on for years but this is their first big win.

So what will they do now that they won a million dollars in real life?

Taylor and Cushenan are considering travelling to Boston, Dallas and British Columbia. They also plan to share this prize with their children. “I’m happy and full of emotion,” said Cushenan. “It feels like the whole world has been lifted off my shoulders.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Big Bee Food Mart on Melvin Avenue in Hamilton.
