Hamilton’s fortieth shooting of the year was confirmed through video footage.

Emergency crews were called to a report of a shooting in a parking lot at 25 East Ave. N. on Saturday at 3:40 a.m., Hamilton Police said in a press release on Thursday.

Responding officers couldn’t find evidence of a shooting, police said. But officers reviewed hours of video footage and confirmed the shooting.

A man is seen on video (see below) firing a handgun into the air while walking through the parking lot. The man was wearing light-coloured pants and a baseball hat at the time. He was carrying a backpack and pushing a bicycle.

Hamilton Police Shooting Response Team is appealing to the community for any information regarding this shooting.

People and vehicles were in the parking lot at the time of the incident. Police ask those people to come forward and contact investigators.

Police also ask residents and businesses in the area of East Avenue North, King Street East and King William Street to review their security and dash camera footage for any evidence that may assist in this investigation.

Police released video footage to the community in the hope that someone may be able to identify the individual.

This shooting comes as Hamilton Police raise concerns about the increase in gun violence. Last week, three shootings were reported in one night.

If you have any information that could aid the investigation, contact the Shooting Response Team at 905-546-4883 or via email at [email protected].
