Hamilton resident thought $1-million lotto win was only $1,000 until he double checked

Robert Morris of Hamilton thought his $1-million Gold Ball Draw win was too good to be true until he double-checked his numbers.

Morris, upon receiving an email confirmation from Lotto 6/49, thought he only had received $1,000 in his initial winnings.

“I saw an email come through from OLG. I was already logged into my OLG.ca account and thought I had won $1,000. I was happy with that amount,” Morris recalled in an official statement.

It wasn’t until representatives called Morris for a follow-up that he realized the amount he had won came with substantially more zeros on the end of it than he had realized, as he had won $1-million.

“I had already told my family I had won $1,000. When I called them back to say I had actually won a million dollars, they were shocked,” said Morris. “I was still in shock too! I was worried this was all too good to be true. It’s been unbelievable, but I am thankful for this win.”

Morris intends to travel and invest some of his winnings in his children and grandchildren while also splurging a little bit on travel, as he intends to “invest for my future to ensure I’m comfortable.”

The winning ticket was purchased on OLG.ca.
