Ontario Hamilton police, head-on collision charges dangerous driving

A salesman who worked at a Hamilton car dealership faces nearly 90 charges concerning an alleged $1.5 million in fraudulent sales.

Hamilton Police launched their investigation in March 2024 following reports of “fraudulent vehicle purchases involving stolen identities.” Investigators believe the salesman, Shelton Mark Gregouire, 44 of London, purchased 14 vehicles this way between November 2023 and March 2024.

Police allege Gregouire took out loans under stolen identities resulting in a $1.5 million loss for the dealership and banks. The victims were not aware their identities had been used to buy the cars.

The vehicles received new vehicle identification numbers and were mostly shipped out of the country. Only one has been recovered so far.

Gregouire now faces 87 charges including;

  • 14 counts of fraud over $5,000
  • 4 counts of fraud under $5,000
  • 23 counts of identity theft
  • 14 counts of obtaining credit by fraud
  • 9 counts of attempted credit by fraud
  • 23 counts of using forged documents

He’s set to appear in court at a later date. Police said the investigation is still ongoing and they expect to make more arrests in future. They “urge community members to regularly monitor their credit reports and scores to ensure all debts are accounted for and to stay vigilant against identity theft. If you notice any suspicious activity, report it immediately.”
